It is one of the most famous shrubs that blooms in winter. From the beginning of February until well into April the small flowers turn the shrub massively yellow.

After flowering, oval, green fruits develop, which ripen in the autumn and then turn dark red. They are popular with birds that do not care about the acidic flesh. Fruits can be processed into jam or juice. In autumn the leaves turn reddish at first; later bright yellow.
